The EEG Chronicles: A Baby vs. Electrodes Showdown

At around 8 months old, I had to undergo an EEG. Now, for most babies, this might not be the most thrilling experience, but for me? Let’s just say it turned into an epic battle of wills between me and those sticky electrodes.

Let’s rewind a bit. Remember in a previous blog post when I talked about my boggy head and needing glasses? Well, my mom and my doctors wanted to rule out seizures. An MRI was an option, but my mom wasn’t ready to put me under anesthesia, so an EEG was the next best thing. Easy, right? Not exactly.

The moment those nurses started placing the electrodes on my head, I knew I had to fight back. Sticky pads? Wires? A cap to hold everything in place? Absolutely not! I wiggled, squirmed, and did everything I could to remove them. If there had been an award for ‘Most Determined Baby to Sabotage a Medical Procedure,’ I would have won it hands down.

Despite my best efforts, the EEG eventually got done. And the best news? The results came back negative—no seizures! That meant my little brain was doing just fine.

Looking back, I can’t help but laugh. What felt like a major battle at the time was actually an important milestone in my journey. It was one of those moments that proved I was a fighter, even before I fully understood what that meant.

So, if you ever find yourself up against something uncomfortable or frustrating, just remember: sometimes the toughest battles lead to the best victories. And if you happen to be a baby facing down an EEG, take it from me—those electrodes don’t stand a chance!
